Council Hosting / Website FAQs
Find answers to the frequently asked questions about our Web Hosting for Councils.
Everything we do is UK based! From our staffing, in-house support and management teams to our entire hosting platform (all servers and sites) we are 100% UK based. This means you can be assured that you meet your regulatory requirements for the data protection act of 2018 (GDPR).
The process to do this is straight forward and we simply require a few details from the Clerk or RFO in order to complete this. We then submit the information to the Government Digital Service to process and this then will be registered, typically within 5 working days.
Yes. This process is very easy and all we require is the TAC (Transfer Authorisation Code) from your current provider to complete this.
Yes, if you have an existing Norfolk ALC website & email, we can transfer it to us. Normally this only takes a few hours to complete once authorised.
Yes, we can transfer the content (minutes/agendas) of your Wix site to your new site hosted with us. There maybe an additional charge for this service.
No, a .GOV.UK domain can only be registered with the contact details of the Proper Officer or RFO of the council.
Yes, we can provide, support and connect Microsoft 365 Business services to your .GOV.UK domain.
Yes, we support connecting your .GOV.UK domain to Google Workspace.
To ensure the long-term technical integrity and security of your council’s online presence, RLS retains ownership of the underlying code, custom themes, and proprietary frameworks. However, as part of our service, your council is granted a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use these tools for your website for as long as your hosting agreement remains active.
Absolutely. The Council retains full ownership of all “Client Site Materials,” including your logos, official artwork, meeting minutes, and text content. We simply act as the secure host for these assets.
Yes. We provide the Clerk and authorised staff with restricted access to the Content Management System (CMS) specifically for day-to-day updates. This allows you to:
- Edit text content and publish news or blog posts.
- Upload and archive official documents such as agendas, minutes, and financial reports.
- Manage media assets like images for your news and content pages.
To protect your council from cybersecurity threats and accidental technical failures, RLS remains the sole authority for updating “Server Site Materials,” including core software, security patches, and plugin configurations. This “security by default” approach ensures your site remains compliant with accessibility standards and remains a safe portal for your community.
Our managed service includes professional assistance with formatting website content and performing managed uploads of complex documents upon request or in the event you find yourselves without a clerk/RFO or to cover holidays and sickness. We also provide proactive monitoring and technical guidance to ensure your site continues to meet all regulatory requirements.
For the safety of the hosting environment, the Council is prohibited from uploading executable files or scripts (such as .exe or .js files) that could pose a security risk.
Absolutely, our backup tool take full snapshots of your site and databases each day. These backups are stored for 30 days for your website and 60 days for your databases.
